COWAL Golf Club is appealing to the local community to help track down two missing pieces of its history after discovering that both of its former Junior Championship trophies have disappeared.
Club officials are hoping someone may recognise the silverware or know of its whereabouts, likening the search to the famous tale of Pickles the dog, who found the stolen Jules Rimet World Cup in 1966.
The first missing trophy is the original McCarron Cup, which has been absent from the club for many years. A replacement trophy was later introduced, but that too has since vanished from the club’s trophy cabinet.
The appeal comes as Cowal Golf Club continues to invest in the future of junior golf. Since 2025, the club has renewed its focus on encouraging young people to take up the game and would love to see the historic trophies returned for current and future generations of junior members to enjoy.
The club is asking anyone who may have won either trophy in the past, or relatives of former winners, to check whether the silverware may still be in their possession. Officials are also keen to hear from anyone who recognises the original McCarron Cup or knows of any other Cowal Golf Club memorabilia that may be tucked away.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the club by email at [email protected].
While the search continues, there is good news for the club’s young golfers, with a brand-new Junior Championship trophy already on order and set to be presented to future champions.
