Cowal lodge hosts open day

LAST WEEKEND, Lodge Dunoon Argyll 335 hosted an Open Day and opened its doors to the public for the first time.

The intention of the Open Day was to demystify free masonry in Scotland and allow members of the public to ask questions and talk to masons.

The event was well attended, with visitors ranging from lapsed Masons looking to rejoin the craft, to relatives of past members of curious about their past.

It was also an opportunity for the lodge to highlight the charitable works with 23 organisations, local as well as national, benefiting from fundraising efforts over the years. The organisations who have benefited from Lodge 335s efforts include Erskine Veterans, the Bone Cancer Research Trust, Social 22 (Dunoon Youth Club) and ASIST Dunoon among many more.

On the event, Right Worshipful Master Brother Liam Campbell said: I think our Open Day is really important.

It gives non-masons an opportunity to come through the doors, see our lodge, and learn a little more about what we do and the values we share.

It was wonderful to see so many people attend today and experience a small part of Lodge life for themselves. We were also delighted to welcome Archie MacCulloch, whose presentation on raising awareness of prostate cancer was very informative. It is such an important issue, and we are grateful to Archie for sharing his experiences and helping to highlight the importance of awareness and early action.

Events like this help break down the misconceptions and mystery that can surround freemasonry and show that we are an open, welcoming organisation at the heart of our community.

We look forward to welcoming even more people to our next Open Day.
