ROTHESAY Brandane AFC continued their fine league form with a professional 2-0 victory over Eaglesham. A dominant display from the backline and some great link-up play between the experienced attacking duo of Sean Lawrence and Stephen Reynolds ensured the Danes walked away with all three points, extending their unbeaten streak to nine matches.

The Danes signalled their intent within two minutes when Sean Lawrence and Joe Livingstone combined for a curling effort that whistled just wide of the post.

Despite some testing conditions, Rothesay’s intense set-piece threat eventually broke the deadlock.

After Leon McMillan saw a powerful header saved in the 24th minute, he made no mistake just 120 seconds later. A pinpoint delivery from Bailey Gilmour found McMillan at the back post, where the number five clinically headed home to make it 1-0.

Eaglesham’s best chance of the match followed shortly after. A pass split the Danes’ defence, which left their number 17 one-on-one with William Lawrence, but the striker pulled his shot wide.

On the stroke of half-time, the Eaglesham keeper kept his side in the hunt with a remarkable save to deny Sean Lawrence after some great hold-up play from Stephen Reynolds.

But the second half was a story of Rothesay pressure. Jim McAlister dictated the tempo from the centre circle, with his pass shortly after the restart sending Sean Lawrence through on goal, but again he was met by the on-form Eaglesham keeper, who somehow managed to force his effort wide with an outstretched leg.

But the pressure finally told in the 86th minute. A towering clearing header from Christopher Lawrence, who was imperious in the air all afternoon, was flicked on intelligently by Reynolds. Sean Lawrence timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap, slotting home his 26th goal of the campaign with a composed left-footed finish to put the result beyond doubt.

The Danes return to Rothesay Joint Campus this Saturday at 2pm for a high-stakes league clash against Campsie Minerva. Having been knocked out of the cup by Minerva earlier this season, Rothesay will be looking to use their momentum to settle a score.
