WITH colder weather on the way, motorists across Argyll and Bute are being urged to carry out essential vehicle checks to stay safe on the roads this winter.

Car parts supplier PartsInMotion.co.uk is advising drivers to inspect their vehicles now, with a particular focus on visibility and wiper maintenance as wetter, icier conditions approach.

Worn or damaged wiper blades can pose a serious safety risk, especially as autumn rainfall increases. The company warns that high summer temperatures and UV exposure can cause blades to dry out, harden or crack, reducing their effectiveness.

Visibility is non-negotiable, said Matt Gates, Managing Director at PartsInMotion.co.uk. When roads are constantly wet, ineffective wipers can significantly increase your risk. We encourage drivers to take a proactive approach check your wipers, top up your fluids and make sure your tyre pressures are correct.

The company recommends motorists lift their wiper blades to inspect the rubber edge for any cracks, tears or brittle sections, and perform a performance test on a wet windscreen to identify skipping, streaking or chattering. Screenwash should also be topped up with a high-quality anti-freeze concentrate to prevent pipes from freezing.

Those less confident in carrying out checks themselves can visit their local garage for a winter service, where professionals can ensure everything is road-ready for the months ahead.

Garages and motorists can order essential winter parts directly from PartsInMotion.co.uk, where entering a vehicle registration provides access to thousands of competitively priced components all available with next-day delivery.
