DYFL overcome disruption to secure strong start

Dunoon’s 2014s continued their positive start to the season with an impressive win over Ardgowan Thistle, despite disruption caused by severe weather across the region.

A barrage of poor conditions led to late venue changes and fixture reshuffles in the PJDYFL programme, with Dunoon eventually travelling to Lady Octavia for the tie.

With the squad preparing to make the step up to competitive 11-a-side football in the coming months, this match provided another valuable test — and one they passed with credit.

The game began as a tentative but entertaining contest, with both sides creating chances in an end-to-end opening period. Ardgowan Thistle proved well organised and mounted a determined comeback at times, giving Dunoon some nervy moments to contend with.

However, Dunoon’s teamwork and structure ultimately proved decisive. Strong wing play and smooth transitions from defence into attack allowed them to create a series of dangerous opportunities in front of goal.

That pressure told, with a flurry of well-taken finishes from Eithan, Luke, Rhys and Campbell securing the victory and capping off a successful opening to the campaign over the past two weekends.

The performance highlighted the squad’s growing confidence and cohesion ahead of their upcoming transition to the full 11-a-side format.

As always, the team were backed by a strong travelling support, with thanks extended to parents and supporters, as well as coaches Alan, Alex, Stewart and Liam for their continued commitment.
