A FOURTH application has got the go-ahead for phase four of the Dunbeg development – incorporating 300 new homes.
Argyll and Bute Council has now announced that planning permission has been approved for the Link Group’s plans for 236 social housing units, 31 student accommodation units and 33 retirement units.
It had previously been awarded planning permission in principle for other housing, and a mixed-use development, as well as full planning permission for the formation of new roads and roundabouts.
The authority then announced on the morning of Tuesday, March 31 that the fourth and final application as part of phase four had also been approved.
A council officer said in a handling report: “The application is considered to represent a minor and justifiable departure from the development plan as the redline boundary of the application site does not fully accord with the boundaries of the allocation site within LDP 2 (Local Development Plan 2).
“In approving the masterplan under (planning application) 16/03368/MPLAN it is material to this judgement to note that approval point five of this masterplan envisaged such circumstances as expected given the complex and then uncertain site characteristics.
“PPSL (planning, protective services and licensing committee) endorsement for a more flexible approach to the delivery of the allocated sites associated with the Dunbeg Strategic Growth Area was approved.”
The report also featured details of an objection which was lodged but later withdrawn, citing concerns over school provision.
A council officer said: “The education department has been involved in determining whether current education provision is adequate through the Dunbeg Strategic Working Group and have attended a number of meetings.
“The education department have confirmed that no additional primary or secondary school infrastructure will require to be provided as result of the residential proposals at Dunbeg with adequate school capacity existing.”
