Fundraising tour visits RNLI Tighnabruaich
The Thornhills with local volunteers Janet Lange, Graeme Hogg and David Mitchell with the Atlantic 85 Inshore lifeboat.

A COUPLE on an ambitious mission to visit every RNLI lifeboat station in the UK and Ireland made a special stop at Tighnabruaich last month.

Helen and Allan Thornhill are touring all 238 lifeboat stations to mark the charitys 200th anniversary and raise vital funds to support its life-saving work.

From Largs and Helensburgh, their journey then took them onward to Arran and the Western Isles, including Portree, Stornoway and Leverburgh.

At Tighnabruaich, the couple were welcomed by local volunteers and introduced to the stations Atlantic 85 Inshore lifeboat.

The RNLI creates a ring of safety around our coasts, explained Allan. To honour that, and raise funds, were visiting them all. Too many people are still drowning. More than ever we need the RNLIs help.

Earlier this summer, the pair celebrated reaching their first fundraising goal of 2,380 enough to fully kit out one inshore lifeboat crew member.

The RNLI receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations. The Thornhills nationwide tour has already inspired huge support for the charity that saves lives at sea.

With 85 RNLI stations yet to visit you can follow Helen and Allans journey and donate at their JustGiving page entitled: 238 RNLI Lifeboat Station Challenge.
