Further delays are set to hit a lift installation project that has been ongoing at the iconic Watt Institution in Greenock in recent months.
The A-listed heritage attraction in the town’s Kelly Street has been closed on a temporary basis since October to allow the works to take place.
The improvements were deemed necessary to address the lack of an accessible route to the upper exhibition space on the museum’s mezzanine floor.
An update will be provided on the timescales of the job at Inverclyde Council’s environment and regeneration committee when it meets next Thursday.
“Further delays have been advised following a bereavement within sub-contractor’s organisation involving a key member of staff,” a report explained.
“Completion had already been extended to end of May with further delay into June now a possibility.
“The main contractor is investigating options for employing an alternative sub-contractor, however, this may not be feasible and/or result in a significantly improved programme.”
A report to full council in early October had said it was anticipated the facility would reopen to the public in February, however, it remains closed for the time being.
