Historic Argyll castle hotel eyes EV points

PLANS have been revealed for two electric vehicle charging points at a nearly 200-year-old baronial country house hotel near Tarbert.

Bespoke Hotel Management, owners of Stonefield Castle Hotel, want to install the facilities in the existing car park at the premises.

The units would serve a total of four vehicles for charging at any one time, for use by guests or staff at the hotel.

The building was originally constructed in 1837 and became a hotel in the mid-20th century.

Argyll and Bute Council officers are expected to rule on the application by late April, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.

A design and access statement submitted with the application said: “Stonefield Castle Hotel is a Scottish baronial country house hotel dating from 1837 and listed for its architectural and historic interest.

“This proposal installs two new electric vehicle charging units within the existing car park to the west of the main building. The two chargers will provide charging provision for four parking spaces.

“The works are small scale, reversible and confined to existing hardstanding within the car park. The installation will improve facilities for guests and staff and encourage sustainable travel.

“The two charging units will be installed on existing hardstanding within the car park to the west of the main building and will be arranged to serve four parking bays (each unit serving two bays).

“The chargers are freestanding and will be sited on existing surfacing, so overall car park layout, circulation and vehicle access routes remain unchanged. The car park area is surrounded by planting and the chargers will be relatively screened from wider views.”

The statement added: “Providing on-site EV charging directly supports the shift to low-carbon transport and encourages sustainable travel for visitors and staff while using a small, reversible intervention.”
