MORE than 200 people attended a fundraising and awareness evening at Bookpoint in Dunoon last month in support of charities helping people in Palestine.
Organisers said the response from people across Dunoon and Cowal exceeded all expectations, with many also making donations even after the venue had reached capacity.
The event raised more than £2,500 for Medical Aid for Palestinians and Hadeel, two charities supporting those living and working in Palestine.
Guests were able to meet with local MP Brendan O’Hara, who attended early in the evening to speak with those present.
Mr O’Hara also gave a presentation on his work with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Genocide Prevention, which organisers described as both informative and thought-provoking.
His closing message to those attending was to do what they could to help, without feeling guilty about being unable to do more.
The evening also featured live acoustic music from local musicians Ali Davidson, Gordon Blair and Hamish.
A tombola, supported by prizes donated by local people and businesses, proved popular with guests, while a small auction was also held.
One of the standout auction prizes was a free car service donated by Ferguslie Garage.
Organisers also highlighted that Bookpoint stocks a range of items made and grown in the West Bank.
