ISLAY High School has reflected on a positive year which saw it beat the local and national A-C averages at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.
Every S6 pupil sitting an Advanced Higher exam at the school gained an A-C grade during the 2024/25 exam diet. The results for 2025/26 will be known in August.
Several extra-curricular successes for the school have also been highlighted in a report which will go before councillors at a meeting.
Argyll and Bute Council’s Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands area committee will meet on Wednesday, June 3.
The report said: “The percentage values for both A-C and A-D values for both National 5 and Higher are above both the authority and national averages.
“There are strong results across almost all subjects and our early intervention letters and support that staff provide for pupils reflects our commitment to ‘Getting it Right for Every Child’.
“Our S6 cohort achieved consistently high standards at Advanced Higher level. The smaller numbers mean that this statistic will not be easy to maintain as each pupil represents a larger percentage of our attainment statistics.
“We encourage a positive presentation policy, especially for S6 pupils. We will continue to develop alternative courses for S5/6 pupils sitting courses at Level 5-7.
“Wider achievement opportunities need to be developed looking at our current curriculum offer, in addition to our staffing and other partners, such as e-sgoil (a national e-learning service).”
The document added: “Across the school we have strong positive relationships between staff, pupils and the wider community.
“The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular events at lunchtimes and after school as well as a large number of residential trips.
“Pupils have taken part in a wide range of fundraising events to allow trips to take place. Experiences included in these trips are very important for our pupils.
“Our school benefits enormously from the strong partnerships with estates, employers, organisations and the community in general. This has a positive impact on pupil achievement and post-school destinations.
“We continue to run inter-generational Gaelic events throughout the year and a range of community engagement activities. All of these events are well attended.
“It is always our ambition to ensure that all our pupils are not disadvantaged by location and to ensure that we provide as many wider achievement opportunities and experiences as we can.
“Our S2 took part in the Youth Philanthropic Initiative to great success, and our trad groups go from strength to strength. Our numbers are increasing and they are playing at a wide range of events throughout the year including local festivals and Celtic Connections.”
