VOTERS across Argyll and Bute are being urged to make sure they are registered to vote ahead of the Scottish Parliamentary Election on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
On that day, people across Scotland will elect 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs).
Argyll and Bute Council has published key information for voters and potential candidates, including important deadlines and details on how to take part in the election.
The formal Notice of Election for the Argyll and Bute constituency will be published on the council’s website on Monday, March 16, officially launching the election process.
Anyone wishing to stand as a candidate will be able to submit nomination papers from Tuesday, March 17, with the deadline set for 4pm on Wednesday, April 1. After nominations close, the Notice of Poll will confirm the final list of candidates.
For voters, the most important step is ensuring they are registered to vote, with the deadline to register set for Monday, April 20.
Residents who plan to vote by post must apply by 5pm on Tuesday, April 21, while those wishing to appoint someone else to vote on their behalf using a proxy vote must apply by 5pm on Tuesday, April 28.
People who choose to vote in person will receive a polling card confirming where their local polling station is located. A full list of polling stations will also be available on the council’s elections webpage from April 1.
Residents of the Helensburgh and Lomond area, who are part of the Dumbarton constituency, are advised to check election information through West Dunbartonshire Council.
Argyll and Bute Council said its elections webpage will be regularly updated in the run-up to polling day, with guidance on how to register, vote, or stand as a candidate.
Voters can register online through gov.uk or mygov.scot.
Council officials are encouraging residents to act early to ensure they do not miss the opportunity to take part in the election.
