Kyles Shinty raise money in memory of close family member

KYLES ATHLETIC players are banding together behind two of their dedicated squad members who lost a young family member to a life-limiting condition.

The squad is aiming to cover 2,358 miles, the equivalent distance of travel to each away ground in the Premiership, in time for the beginning of the season in aid of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

The aim is to raise £1 for every mile the team covers, meaning the club has the ambitious target of £2,358.

Struan and Cairn Limbert lost Callie-Rose at a young age, but the family cherish the little time the got to spend with her.

In a statement on the JustGiving page, the family said: “Callie-Rose was part of our family long before she ever arrived in the world.

“From the moment we heard her tiny heartbeat, she became part of our hopes, our dreams, and our future. When the doctors told us that she had a life-limiting condition, everything changed. We knew her life would be short, but nothing could ever lessen the love we felt for her.

“When Callie-Rose was born, she was perfect. Quiet, delicate, and surrounded by love. We held her close and made sure she knew how deeply she was cherished.”

Though the family were reticent at first, eventually Callie-Rose was taken to Robin House Children’s Hospice where she was cared for expertly.

The family added: “The staff welcomed our baby with such gentleness, it took our breath away.

“They handled Callie as if she were their own, with careful hands, soft voices, and endless patience. They learned her tiny movements, her quiet sounds, the way she settled when she was held just right. She wasn’t treated as a condition or a case but a precious little girl.

“When we look back, we don’t only remember the pain. We remember the compassion, the dignity, and the care that surrounded our precious baby and our family. Robin House gave us memories when we feared there would only be loss. They gave our baby comfort and they gave us strength when we had none left.”

“Her brother, Struan, played a special part in her story. Even though he was young, he understood in his own gentle way that his baby sister was as a precious little girl.

“Her uncle, Cairn, also held a special bond with her. From the moment he knew about her, he became her protector. He spoke her name with pride, held her with the greatest care, and made sure every moment with her counted. Cairn’s strength, humour, and steady presence helped hold the whole family together

“Robin House gave Callie-Rose dignity, comfort, and a gentle place to rest. And they gave us something priceless: time to hold her without fear, time to say everything we needed to say.

“Every person who walked through those doors with us felt the softness and compassion that Robin House is known for.

“To us, Robin House will always be remembered as the place that held our precious baby when we couldn’t hold the world together. A place where her short life shone gently, beautifully, and without pain. A place where we were supported, comforted, and understood.

“For us, it will always hold a piece of her.”

As a community club, Kyles felt they should do their part, which birthed the idea of the challenge–highlighting not only Callie-Rose’s story but the travel involved in top-level shinty.

Whether it’s walking, running, cycling or swimming, everyone is getting stuck in however they can.

First team manager, Grant Profit, said: “It’s that time of year when we want to give the boys the opportunity to get as fit as possible and I thought it would be good to do it for a good purpose.

“We as a club want to really step up our engagement with the local community and get the squad working together and this was the perfect opportunity to do so whilst highlight the distances we travel throughout the year. Struan and Cairn are valued members of the squad and this is something that is close to them and important for everyone to get behind.”

If anyone wishes to get involved, the club trains in Dunoon on a Tuesday night at 7pm and in Paisley on a Wednesday at 7:30pm .
