PLANS for several fabric repairs at a village church, including a covered link walkway and new windows and doors, have been awarded planning permission.
The proposal for Lochgair Church and hall, submitted by the Lochgair Association, attracted 16 expressions of support from the public to Argyll and Bute Council.
Accessible toilets and internal refurbishments also form part of the plans, which were awarded planning permission last week.
A separate application for listed building consent is awaiting a decision from the council. One objection, citing parking arrangements, was also received by the authority for the planning permission application.
A council planning officer said in a handling report: “The proposal includes the erection of a covered link walkway on the rear elevation to connect the main hall and the secondary hall buildings, to form an interconnecting community hall with accessible sanitary accommodation.
“The proposal also seeks the replacement of windows on the main hall. Two new window openings are proposed on the south elevation of the main hall. A photovoltaic array system with 30 solar panels would also be installed on the roof of the secondary hall.
“The building involved in the application is a category C listed building. The works detailed above have also been fully assessed in the listed building consent application.
“It is considered that proposed works would not result in a material detriment to the character and appearance of the listed building and its setting.
“Area roads were consulted and have no objections to the application, subject to car parking spaces being provided through the proposed community parking mentioned above, and the submission and implementation of a traffic management plan.”
