New bus stop planned at Loch Fyne Oyster Bar

WORK is taking place to install a new bus stop at a popular restaurant at the top of Loch Fyne, a councillor has said.

But an Argyll and Bute Council official has warned that the new facility at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar is unlikely to happen “in the immediate term”.

Councillor William Sinclair (Liberal Democrat, Cowal) advised councillors and officials of a meeting which is due to take place at the site next week.

The discussion took place at a meeting of the council’s Bute and Cowal area committee on Tuesday, March 3.

Councillor Sinclair said: “I have been working on a new bus stop, which would be adjacent to the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, which is a really busy place and starting to ramp up into spring and summer.

“I am working with the Ardkinglas Estate, who have gifted the land there at no cost, but seemingly Transport Scotland have had a change of personnel, and are having to look at it.

“I am going to be on site with the community and estate on Wednesday, March 11 to see what they are talking about, but it is quite a major priority over there and the area is getting busy.”

Mark Calder, the council’s project manager, responded: “My team is in two parts. I have a team dealing with enquiries, but the other team deals with projects and we are providing support from the business infrastructure fund.

“What needs to be created is a layby or a cut-in. It is not a scheme that can be done tomorrow.

“I am aware of this meeting and there are different parties at play, and the guys are working to get the different constituents.

“Once there is a principal agreement we will pass that over. Whether we do it through the internal design team, or externally, depends on the resources and workload.

“While everybody is keen to progress this, I would not expect to see any work on the site in the immediate term.”

Councillor Sinclair added: “Because of the amount of people visiting that particular area, it is a really key priority, even in getting staff dropped off.

“Currently they have a drop-off on the main road, which is really busy.”
