PLANS for three holiday letting cabins on an estate at Port Appin have been withdrawn.
Ralph Dundas applied to Argyll and Bute Council for planning permission for the site at Airds Estate in August 2025.
But the council has now stated that the application has been withdrawn, with no clear indication of whether it will be re-submitted.
The plans had attracted 12 objections from the public during the planning process, with no expressions of support.
A design statement submitted with the application said: “The project will bring a significant benefit not only to the visitors and their appreciation of the natural environment but also the local businesses and attractions that are on the doorstep, being a short walk from Port Appin, already a food destination, with Airds Hotel and The Pier House within 10 minutes’ walk. The Old Inn, The Creagan Inn and the Castle Stalker Café are all within a short drive, or 30-minute cycle.
“The cabins will be self-contained with small kitchens allowing guests to prepare meals. Along with the opportunity to pre-order a selection of food and ingredients from local producers, it is also intended that breakfast ‘hampers’ can be prepared at the Steading at Airds House and delivered in an extrapolated ‘room service’ similar to the successful cabins at the Inver restaurant.
“Guests will also be encouraged to take advantage of the excellent local food offerings, creating a social connection with the community.
“Echo’s micro cabins are designed with the aim of promoting elegance and efficiency in small scale living. Building small means minimising the use of materials and energy in each construction; the resources we use, we use efficiently, and with respect.
“The materials we use come from sustainable sources and are high performance, contributing to the building’s longevity and efficiency.”
A letter from the council to the applicant, dated August 18, published with the application’s documents, said: “I refer to your letter of August 18 in respect of the above development and would advise that as requested the application has been withdrawn.”
