ROTHESAY & DISTRICT Pipe Band returned home in triumph on Saturday after securing an impressive second-place finish at the British Pipe Band Championships held at Ingliston, near Edinburgh.
Competing against some of the finest bands in grade 3B from across the United Kingdom, the Rothesay band delivered a polished and confident performance that earned praise from judges and secured the runners-up position in a highly competitive field.
Band members and supporters travelled to Ingliston for the prestigious event, where months of hard work and preparation paid off with one of the band’s strongest championship results in recent years.
The judges’ remarks reflected the quality of the band’s performance, with positive comments highlighting the standard of both the piping and drumming throughout their contest set. The result was warmly welcomed by players who have worked tirelessly throughout the winter to prepare for the 2026 season.
The celebrations continued on the journey home and, as the band returned to Bute, members marked the occasion by playing on the ferry crossing back to the island, entertaining passengers before marching from the pier building to Guildford Square, proudly sharing their success with the community.
The championship result adds another significant achievement to the band’s history and provides great encouragement as they look ahead to the remainder of the competition season. The next competitive outing for the grade 3 band is the European Championships in Perth at the end of June, whilst the Novice Juvenile band will play at Ayr Highland Games earlier in the month.
The band would like to thank the community for their continued support.
