Rothesay pub planning for outdoor drinking and earlier opening time

Plans for outside drinking facilities and bar meals at a Rothesay pub are on the agenda for a meeting of councillors next week.

The Golfers Bar, on East Princes Street, also wishes to amend its Sunday licensing start to 11am, and add indoor sports as an activity on its premises licence.

The plans for the bar, situated in a three-storey town centre building, will be heard at a meeting of the Argyll and Bute licensing board on Tuesday, June 24.

A licensing standards officer said in an accompanying report: [This is] An application to add an outside area to the front of the premises to accommodate outside drinking area for customers. The applicant informs that the area proposed has been agreed by the roads department.

The applicant has taken this opportunity to adjust the operating plan to assist the business going forward.

A layout plan has been submitted which depicts the scale of the outside area. The applicant has submitted a further update to show the relationship to the front elevation of the premises and how this connects with the roped off pavement area.

Meanwhile, another Rothesay premises is now seeking a permanent licence, having recently been refurbished and operated under occasional licences.

The Rabbie, in Gallowgate, hopes to secure an on sales licence from 11am to 11pm Monday to Thursday, 11am to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 11pm on Sunday, along with an off sales licence.

A licensing standards officer said: The Rabbie is a historical licenced premises within Rothesay town centre and had been closed for some time.

Under new management, the premises have been refurbished. The applicant has been operating under occasional licences for the past few months without issue.

The premises are on the ground floor of a tenement with three flatted dwelling houses above. It is situated in the commercial centre of the town but is also close to the seafront. The premises comprise a public bar with adjoining lounge bar.
