Strong scoring in busy fortnight at Rothesay Golf Club

ROTHESAY Golf Club members have enjoyed a busy spell on the course, with a series of competitions over the past two weeks producing some strong scoring and close finishes.

The Extra Medal, played on May 9, saw Frank Lee take top honours with an excellent net 64 after carding 83 off a handicap of 19. George Reynolds was just one shot behind on net 65, while Stuart Robertson finished third with a net 66.

The following day’s May Medal was split into three divisions, with Angus Murray leading Division One after returning a 75 for net 69. In Division Two, James

Crichton produced one of the best scores of the weekend, shooting 76 for a net 67, while Ian Lowery won Division Three with a net 72.

Competition remained tight in the I and T Hood Trophy, where Stewart Hogarth claimed first place on countback after matching Derek Smith’s net score of 65. Hogarth’s round of 75 off 10 edged out Smith, who returned 74 from a handicap of nine.

The Learmonth Trophy also proved closely contested, with Craig Charker taking victory after a fine gross 70 and net 67. Stuart McLean finished runner-up on the same net score, while Robert

Turnbull completed the leading trio with a net 70.

The recent events continue a strong run of competition at the club as members take advantage of the spring conditions on the Rothesay course.
