It’s been a busy and successful couple of weeks at Innellan Golf Club, with league competitions heating up and several major events producing some impressive performances.
With the season now in full swing, members have enjoyed excellent playing conditions and competitive golf across a packed fixture schedule.
The Saturday Series continued with week seven seeing Iain McKie lead the way with an outstanding score of 61. Shonna Derrett followed in second place with 64, while Dan Wilkinson finished third on 66.
Week eight saw Gordon Miller take top spot with 35 points, narrowly ahead of Iain McKie on 34 points and Jamie McLaughlin on 33.
The following week, Dan Wilkinson claimed victory with a score of 64, with Shonna Derrett continuing her strong form to take second place on 66 and Derek Purdie finishing third with 67.
The Wednesday Series also produced some excellent scoring, with Thomas Law taking a commanding win with 22 points, ahead of Neil Ferguson on 19 and David McLaughlin on 17.
The following week it was Alasdair Simpson who came out on top with 19 points, with Stewart Campbell second on 18 and James Gallagher third, also on 18, after a countback.
There was a strong turnout for the Captain’s Charity Stroke Play competition, where Stewart Campbell produced a superb round of 61 to secure victory.
Russell Lees finished second with 65, while the ever-consistent Neil Ferguson took third place, also with 65.
The June Medal proved to be a close contest, with Ben Bryant claiming the win after a fantastic score of 62.
Three players finished on the same total, with countback deciding the remaining places as Alasdair Simpson took second and Russell Lees finished third.
One of the highlights of the recent schedule was the Centenary Scramble, which saw seven teams compete on a perfect evening for golf.
With the course in excellent condition, there was plenty of strong scoring, but one team proved impossible to catch.
Dan Wilkinson, Brian Emery, Graham McGillivary and Andrew McLaughlin produced a brilliant winning round of 49, including eight birdies and nine pars.
Harry Black, Robin McDougall and Billy McLaughlin finished second with an impressive score of 53.
The club also hosted its first open competition of the year, the Greenkeepers Open, which attracted a strong field and produced some exceptional golf.
In the men’s competition, Iain McKie lifted the trophy after an incredible round of 59.
Graham McGillivary finished runner-up with an excellent 61, while Murray Wilson completed the top three with 64.
In the ladies’ competition, Shonna Derrett continued her impressive run by taking the title with 35 points.
Lorraine Daw finished second with 29, while Margaret Lauder was third on 27.
The club thanked visiting players from Blairmore and Strone Golf Club, as well as the greenkeepers, organisers, helpers and everyone who has supported competitions over recent weeks.
Attention now turns to upcoming fixtures, including the Club Championship.
