An alcohol and drugs support service has been given the go ahead to move into a unit in Port Glasgow which was last used by a funeral director.
Moving on Inverclyde has been granted planning permission from Inverclyde Council, subject to conditions, to take on the site in Church Street.
The charity will provide counselling, group therapy and exercise sessions for individuals and their families who have been affected by addiction.
There will be approximately two to three staff at the base, working with between five and 15 service users at any one time.
A report of handling said: “The application site has been vacant for several years and the proposal to bring it back into use will eliminate a dead frontage and have a positive impact on the appearance of the street, to the benefit of the amenity of the area.
“Bringing the vacant unit back into use will encourage pedestrian activity, which will be of positive benefit to the vitality and viability of the town centre.”
The premises are expected to be open from 9am until 7pm, Monday to Friday, and from 11am until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The site is located in Port Glasgow’s town centre area which features a mix of residential and retail uses.
An official decision notice confirmed the proposal was in line with the relevant provisions of the development plan.
