Top promoter picks the Pavilion for headline weekend productions

SCOTLAND’S leading entertainment promoter has set his sights on Rothesay Pavilion as the perfect place for top-line events.
Speaking to The Isle of Bute News, Geoff Ellis said he’s already got some names in mind and he sees great potential in the venue to host a series of weekend special events.

“I can see a couple of weekends a year when we do something really big,” he said. “Get people over to the island on the Friday and keep them entertained until Sunday afternoon, Sunday evening – it’d be great at the Pavilion and great for business on Bute.”

Mr Ellis, who got married at Mount Stuart House in August 2010, said he would not be tempted to reveal any of the big names he is thinking of because then it just doesn’t happen, he said.

The promoter said his fingers were burnt on that in the past when someone tipped off Coldplay were going to come. They didn’t; it just dropped off the scene.

He sees great merit in creating high-profile events centred on the Pavilion but rolling out across the island.

“It’s such a great place to go to. Yes, we could do add-on days to Glasgow or Edinburgh events and concerts, but Rothesay Pavilion could readily host bespoke events.

“Lots of players don’t want to do Glasgow, they want to do the Highlands. Size is often a problem but not at the Pavilion. They’ve got everything going the right way. A great sound system is going in and we could just plug and play and that helps us on costs. It’s great.”

The man behind some of the greatest gigs across Scotland, Geoff Ellis said he just loves Wemyss Bay Station.

“You get there then take the ferry and before you know it you’re transformed, in another place, and then you get off the ferry and it’s a short walk to the Pavilion.

“This is a really good alternative to doing the cities.”
