CalMac is changing the process through which customers purchase ticket for Western Ferries during periods of disruption on its own Gourock-Dunoon service.
When the CalMac service is disrupted due to the likes of adverse weather or technical issues and no vessels are operating, CalMac will unless otherwise stated operate a free shuttle bus service to transfer customers wishing to use Western Ferries.
Following discussions with Western Ferries, customers will now be asked to purchase their own Western Ferries ticket..
Victoria Shaw, CalMac’s Area Manager for Clyde North, said: “Gourock-Dunoon is scheduled to return to a two-vessel service from Sunday 16 November when MV Ali Cat returns from her annual overhaul. We’resharing this information with customers in advance of that.
“The proposed changes are only relevant when there’s disruption on our own Gourock-Dunoon service and customers want to travel via Western Ferries to get to their destination.”
The shuttle bus service will only run when there are no vessels operating on CalMac’s Gourock-Dunoon route. This means that if both MV Ali Cat and MV Argyll Flyer are operating the route and one comes off service with a technical issue, the bus shuttle service will not operate.
As CalMac’s Gourock-Dunoon service is a ‘turn up and go’ route, tickets are valid on any sailing in the timetable period they were purchased for. Customers will be asked to retain their tickets for the next time they travel but, if they have no plans to travel again, they can contact CalMac for support. Full details of CalMac’s passenger rights policy, and more information on the Gourock-Dunoon service, can be found onthe CalMac website.
