Venice Biennale opens with Mount Stuart-linked exhibition

THE prestigious Venice Biennale opens in Italy next week with a multi-platform exhibit linked to Mount Stuart as the grand house celebrates its 25th anniversary of showcasing contemporary visual arts.
The artists Davide Bugarin and Angel Cohn Castle have collaborated with Mount Stuart to present works that examine how sound and costume shape social control.
The curator of the Mount Stuart Trust, Morven Gregor, said she was delighted to have the partnership with Davide and Angel during this special year for the organisation.
“We are excited to curate this work, extending our shared commitment through the opportunities presented by Scotland and Venice to bring this ambitious work of performance and moving image to life and to reach our audiences in Scotland and internationally.”
The Venice Biennale is one of the most significant international platforms in the art world, celebrating visual art, architecture, cinema, dance, music and theatre. Founded in 1895, it is regarded as the most influential and prestigious contemporary art event in the world. It attracted an audience of more than 700,000 people in its last outing in 2024.
Traditionally, followers of the Biennale choose to travel onwards to visit host curators worldwide, so Mount Stuart Trust is hopeful it will attract additional travellers to Bute when the works by Davide Bugarin and Angel Cohn Castle come to the house for exhibition in 2027.
