Young Voices lead the way as Social 22 nears first anniversary

SOCIAL 22, Dunoon’s youth-led community club, is approaching its first anniversary and continues to grow from to strength.

Since opening last year, the club has welcomed over 100 registered members, with 30 to 40 young people regularly attending each Friday evening. The sessions offer a space for young people to socialise, take part in activities, and build connections with others in the community.

A key development over the past year has been the formation of a junior committee, made up of young people who meet regularly to help shape and

develop the club. Their ideas and input play an important role in ensuring Social 22 reflects the interests and needs of its members.

As part of its ongoing work, Social 22 has also begun inviting P7 pupils who will be transitioning to Dunoon Grammar School to attend between 6pm and 7pm during Friday sessions. This provides an opportunity for young people to get to know one another ahead of moving into S1, helping to build familiarity and friendships in advance of the transition.

The group has also secured funding from Youth Scotland, which will cover the cost of renting the youth club space for the next six months. This support will help ensure the club can continue to run regular sessions for local young people.

To sustain and grow the club, Social 22 is now appealing for additional volunteers. Anyone who can offer their time on a Friday evening, even as little as once per month, would make a valuable contribution to the running of the club.

Those interested in volunteering or finding out more can contact social22dunoon@gmail. co.uk or reach out via Social 22’s social media channels.

As the club approaches its one-year milestone, the focus remains on continuing to support young people, strengthen opportunities for connection, and maintain a space where all young people feel welcomed, included, and able to be themselves.
