KYLES ATHLETIC endured a difficult afternoon in the MacAulay Cup semi-final as a youthful side suffered a 10-0 defeat away to Oban Camanachd.
With several senior players unavailable and others carrying injuries, Kyles travelled with an inexperienced squad that included three 15-year-olds making valuable contributions on one of the biggest stages in the shinty calendar.
Oban proved clinical throughout, particularly after the break, and tightened their grip on the contest following a second yellow card for Kyles which reduced the visitors to 14 players with around 20 minutes remaining.
Despite the scoreline, Kyles continued to battle until the final whistle, with club officials praising the commitment and determination shown by the young side.
There was better news for Kyles second team on Friday evening as they secured their first league victory of the season with an entertaining 5-3 win over Glasgow Mid Argyll seconds at the Playing Fields.
The visitors took an early lead through first team manager Nick Labin, but Kyles responded in impressive fashion.
Connor Guidici produced a fine hat-trick to put the hosts in control, while Joe MacVicar continued his impressive form by scoring twice in the space of 10 minutes to complete the scoring.
Glasgow Mid Argyll pushed Kyles throughout in a closely contested encounter, but the home side showed plenty of character to see out the victory and claim a deserved first league win.
The club also thanked supporters who turned out to back both teams over the weekend and expressed its appreciation to Cot House Services for sponsoring Friday evenings home fixture.
