Camanachd Association and Mowi celebrate landmark sponsorship extension as new season dawns

Mowi has reaffirmed its enduring commitment to shinty by extending their sponsorship of the Camanachd Association, a partnership that will now span a fourth decade.

In doing so, Mowi continue as the longest-standing sponsor of any Scottish sport, a relationship woven deeply into the fabric of the game. The renewed agreement includes further investment aimed squarely at strengthening grassroots development and accelerating progress in the women’s and girls’ game.

The new season throws in on Saturday, March 7, and the announcement was marked by a gathering at Mowi’s Fort William office. Players representing a selection of current men’s and women’s league champions came together to celebrate 2025 and look ahead with promise to the new campaign.

Ruari Davidson, chief executive officer of the Camanachd Association, said: “Mowi’s support has become part of shinty’s story. To see this partnership move into a fourth decade is extraordinary and speaks volumes about shared values and belief in our sport. This renewed commitment strengthens our work at grassroots level and gives real momentum to the continued growth of the women’s and girls’ game. As we look ahead to a new season, we do so with confidence and excitement.”

Ben Hadfield, chief operating officer of Mowi Scotland, said: “Our partnership with the Camanachd Association reflects a shared commitment to the communities across Scotland. Shinty is woven into daily life in many of the areas where we operate, and supporting the sport over so many years demonstrates our long-term investment in those places. Extending this sponsorship into a fourth decade is a significant milestone, and we are pleased to continue backing both the elite competitions and the grassroots structures that sustain the game.”

Jayne MacKay, community engagement officer at Mowi Scotland, added: “Shinty is important to Mowi because our farm locations are in remote and rural communities and a lot of our employees have connections with clubs throughout these communities, whether playing themselves or supporting family members who do. We are delighted to extend the sponsorship to include an additional investment into the women’s game and grassroots shinty, strengthening the foundations of the sport as well as the full player pathway right up to the international game.”

Karen Williamson, Women’s Camanachd Association President, said: “With our 2026 season now underway, we are delighted to have the continued support of Mowi, who have been at the heart of our game for many years. It is a testament to their commitment that our leagues and cup competitions are able to strive and grow as they do today. With three new senior teams competing this season, it is a clear example of how much the women’s game has developed — and how strongly it continues to move forward.”

Among those present were representatives of reigning champions including Kingussie and Lochaber, whose successes last season set the standard in the men’s and women’s top flights.

Ruaridh Anderson of Kingussie said: “I’m really looking forward to the new season, we’ve had a really successful time over the last few seasons, and we’ve got old players coming back and a new management team. So, we’re really looking forward to it with all the new boys coming in, whether they’re old faces or new to the club, everyone’s gelled in very well.

“We’ve been pretty consistent over the last few years, but last season it was a lot closer than it has been, so we’ve got a lot of things to work on this season so that we can keep the league titles coming.

“Obviously I’d like to add more goals to by game, I’m pretty fortunate that the players around me are good at getting their name on the score sheet, and whilst it’s an area of my game I’d like to improve, as long as someone’s getting the goals I’m happy.”

Amy Disher of Lochaber said:“It felt great winning the league title for the first time ever, especially being the first team to get their name on the new trophy. The girls and coaches all worked so we were so pleased to get it over the line.

“I’d hope we can challenge for the league and cup. We’ve got a lot of young girls coming in, so with another cup being added I think this season will be good for getting everyone game time, and hopefully that ends with us lifting silverware again.”
