Jobcentre Plus Strengthens Employer Partnerships Across Argyll & Bute

Jobcentre Plus strengthens links with Argyll and Bute employers to boost local jobs

Jobcentre Plus in Argyll and Bute is stepping up its work with local businesses as part of a drive to help more people into employment and strengthen the area’s economy.

Over recent months, Jobcentre teams across the region have been working closely with employers to build strong partnerships that create real job opportunities for local people. This collaborative approach has helped match jobseekers with vacancies across a wide range of sectors.

Looking ahead to the New Year, Jobcentre Plus is set to launch Employer Connect, a new programme of face-to-face networking events designed to bring businesses together. The sessions will give employers the chance to discuss recruitment challenges, share insights, and learn more about the support available from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Events will be held in accessible community venues including Costa Coffee, Tesco Café, Hope Kitchen, UHI Argyll and The Rockfield Centre, and will focus on key local sectors such as hospitality, retail, social care, construction and self-employment.

In February, Oban Jobcentre will also host its annual Hospitality and Customer Service course, giving participants the opportunity to gain formal qualifications and improve their prospects in a competitive job market.

Recent employment figures highlight the impact of this local approach, showing a 7 per cent reduction in the number of people claiming Universal Credit across Argyll and Bute compared to last year. Claims among 18–24-year-olds fell by 5 per cent, while there was a 12 per cent drop among people aged over 50.

Catriona Cameron, Local Employer and Partnership Manager, said Jobcentre Plus is keen to work with businesses to fill vacancies and tailor support to their needs, encouraging employers to speak directly with their local Jobcentre.

By working hand-in-hand with employers and jobseekers, Jobcentre Plus aims to build a stronger and more resilient local economy across Argyll and Bute.
