Kilcreggan former Bank of Scotland could become shop

KILCREGGAN’S former Bank of Scotland could become a retail store under plans submitted to council officers.

A proposal for the change has been submitted to Argyll and Bute Council by Vinuraj Kumar, with the applicant address listed as ‘Kilcreggan Hardware’.

The Bank of Scotland closed its doors for the final time at the Shore Road premises in August 2024, having been the only bank on the Rosneath Peninsula.

Council officials are expected to rule on the application by late July, with the public now able to view plans and submit feedback.

No design statement has yet been published among the suite of documents submitted with the application, but drawings are available to view.

It is proposed to re-glaze over the space previously occupied by the Bank of Scotland’s cash machine, and install a roller shutter for the entrance.

Bank of Scotland first announced plans to close its Kilcreggan branch in November 2023, with it being one of 31 branches earmarked for closure across the country.

A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said at the time: “The way customers choose to bank with us has changed rapidly in recent years, and we now offer a wide range of options for their everyday banking needs. This includes our mobile app, online and over the phone.

“Customers can also bank with us through the Post Office, in a banking hub, or by speaking to a community banker.”

Bank of Scotland also closed its Helensburgh branch, in Colquhoun Square, in March. The town currently has a banking hub located in Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre.
