More than 250 people attend mental health day

Hundreds of people attended Inverclyde Health and Social Care Partnership’s first mental health information and self-management day last month.

The event at the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock on Tuesday, May 19 saw partners meet to promote mental health self-management and early help and boost awareness of the support available in the area.

The drop-in nature of the event meant people could go along when suited, with more than 250 people attending over the course of five hours.

David Gould, chair of Inverclyde Integration Joint Board, which oversees the partnership, said: “This is the first mental health awareness day we’ve organised and I’m delighted with how it went.

“We worked closely with partners across Inverclyde who were happy to attend and support the event and we received a lot of positive feedback from them and from members of the public who came along.

“Good mental health matters to everyone and this event showed people there is help out there, whatever form they need that to be.

“Our aim for the day was to make it welcoming and friendly as well as informative and we feel we got that balance right.

“Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success.”

A total of 17 stallholders took part, covering key areas such as mental health support and peer services, lifestyle and self-care, social wellbeing and community connection and volunteering opportunities.

Feedback from those in attendance has been described as “overwhelmingly positive”, with more than 46 per cent saying they felt informed, 34 per cent better connected and 18 per cent reassured.
