Pass rates rise across Campbeltown Grammar School

CAMPBELTOWN Grammar School has reflected on a successful year which saw its National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher A-C pass rates improve.

The school’s Advanced Higher A-C pass rate also beat the local and national figures in the 2024/25 exam diet. The results for 2025/26 will be known in August.

Several extra-curricular successes for the school, including several community projects, also feature in a report to go before councillors.

Argyll and Bute Council’s Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands area committee will hold its meeting on Wednesday, June 3.

The report said: “We will continue to work with staff to implement appropriate interventions at the right time for each learner. We will continue to adapt and embed our interventions processes to meet the needs of our learners.

“We will continue to engage with Education Scotland and Argyll and Bute central education team to upskill our staff on data analysis and the use of Insight data to plan for improvements.

“Senior leaders will continue to closely monitor presentations, interventions and tracking in the senior phase.

“Faculty heads will meet with their link depute head teachers fortnightly to discuss actions and work collaboratively towards improvements. There is a key focus on raising attainment across the school which is driven by the faculty heads.”

The document added: “Our practical cookery class raised money for MacMillan Cancer Support by taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. S3 pupils held a bake sale and took part in fund raising activities to support their theatre trip.

“Pupils took part in the Rotary Young Chef local finals. Our pupils made a fantastic effort with one of our pupils going on to compete in the national finals. Some S3 and S4 pupils collected donations for the Kintyre Food Bank in the lead up the Christmas.

“We are very grateful to the Landmark Trust, Ifferdale Farm, Tesco and the Co-op for supporting a group of our young people to attend a residential trip to Sadell House where they took part in outdoor activities, cooking together and games on the beach.

“S3 biology pupils are working with [Scottish Association for Marine Science] and Kintyre Sea Sports to carry out an investigation into the presence of the invasive Japanese Skeleton Shrimp in Campbeltown Loch.

“This species of shrimp has never been studied before, and the research will be published in an academic research paper. Our S3 pupils have developed a sampling system and have set it up on the loch.

“Our senior music pupils visited Kintyre Care Home to perform a mini concert. We are now taking part in the MCR Pathways Programme which provides trained volunteer mentors from our community to work with our young people to build confidence and support them to succeed in school and in our community.

“One of our pupils has been appointed as the Lord Lieutenant of Argyll’s Sea Cadet.”
