PLANS have been revealed for a second house to be constructed on an Islay crofting site.
Argyll and Bute Council officers are considering the proposal by John Logan for the site at Taigh Fhraoich Lotts, which his family have managed for over 20 years.
Planning permission has previously been granted for four glamping pods at the same site in a separate planning application.
The council is expected to rule on the application by early February, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.
A supporting statement by MH Planning Associates said: “The site the subject of this application is located approximately 500 metres to the east of the B8016 road and approximately 1km to the north of Glenegedale.
“It forms part of a working croft that extends to approximately 68 hectares (170 acres). The croft has been actively managed by the applicant’s family for over 20 years.
“There is an existing dwelling on the croft, Taigh Fhraoich, and this is occupied by the applicant’s parents. However, as the applicant is the tenant, and the person responsible for the livestock on the croft, there is a clear operational requirement for a second dwelling.
“The current application proposes the erection of a single detached dwellinghouse that will be occupied by the applicant, who manages the associated croft.
“It is considered that the proposal is for an appropriate form of development within the ‘countryside area’ and as such it is supported in principle.
“It is furthermore considered that the application site represents an appropriate opportunity for the erection of a suitably sited and designed dwellinghouse within the countryside area, having due regard to the context of the site in terms of its character and appearance.”
