A RANGE of “free, safe and inclusive” community clubs for youngsters aged 11-18 are in the pipeline for Helensburgh and Lomond, a report has revealed.
Hopes have also been expressed that Friday night football sessions can return to the town in the New Year.
Community learning chiefs in the area are preparing to offer a safe space for young people to play football in six-week blocks when the sessions begin.
The report has also given details of other initiatives for young people in the area run by liveArgyll community learning services.
The document will be considered by Argyll and Bute Council’s Helensburgh and Lomond community planning group at its meeting on Tuesday, November 10.
The report said: “We are excited to announce the launch of a range of free, safe, and inclusive community clubs for young people aged 11–18 from across the Helensburgh and Lomond area.
“These clubs have been developed by the Helensburgh and Lomond Youth Action Council (HLYAC) following a consultation with local young people carried out at the beginning of the year.
“The findings highlighted a need for more accessible, community-based opportunities where young people can meet, make new friends, develop new skills, and take part in activities that reflect their interests.
“Designed by young people, for young people, these clubs will provide welcoming spaces that promote wellbeing, build confidence, encourage positive relationships, and increase opportunities for young people to become active members of their local community.
“Full details of the clubs will be announced soon through our local partnerships and across our social media channels, and we look forward to welcoming young people to these exciting new community opportunities in the near future.”
The document added: “Plans are being developed to bring back Friday night football in the New Year, delivered in six-week blocks.
“The project will provide young people with a free, safe and welcoming space to take part in regular football sessions, build positive relationships and engage in constructive activities on Friday evenings.
“The initiative aims to help reduce antisocial behaviour, promote positive interactions between young people and local services, and support the development of teamwork, communication, confidence and respect.
